About Us

Our Members

We come from Bloomington and beyond, representing many communities. Our congregation consists of people of all ages, from the very young to the well-seasoned in life and different sexual orientations. We hold a mix of religious beliefs, a factor we consider one of our strengths.

Mission Statement - Adopted May 15th, 2011

MVUUF is a liberal religious congregation guided by democratic principles whose mission is to engage members in a shared quest for spiritual and intellectual growth leading to lives of service, compassion and justice.

Values Affirmation

As a congregation of the Minnesota Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, we affirm these values as the core ideals guiding our interactions with each other and the larger community of which we are a part. We commit ourselves to:

  • Learning throughout our lifetimes, seeking knowledge and understanding through inquiry, reason and open-mindedness while affirming the importance of intellectual freedom for all people.
  • Strengthening our social consciences, as individuals and as a congregation, through thoughtful study, dialogue and reflection, and by acting upon our convictions in all we do as members of social communities.
  • Nurturing the growth and development of our Fellowship community by creating and sustaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a place where members support and encourage each other, where the bonds of friendship grow easily, and where music, humor, and creativity flourish.
  • Respecting the individual beliefs, interests, and contributions of the members and friends of our Fellowship and of the larger communities in which we participate.
  • Seeking and encouraging diversity in our Fellowship, including diversity of age, cultural background, ethnicity, and gender preferences; creating a variety of opportunities for all to express their differences and to recognize their common bonds.
  • Providing a supportive and stimulating environment for the growth and development of our children and our families.
  • Advocating for peaceful and just solutions to conflicts and violence in our neighborhoods, our country, and throughout the world.
  • Supporting the quest for spirituality within our congregation and providing opportunities for individual and group study, retention, and sharing.
  • Cultivating a spirit of compassion, generosity, and caring for all others that informs and guides our actions as a Fellowship.
