The small UU citizen advocate group that organized the HHH presentation at VEAP (4 of us), has now grown to 7 with the inclusion of two women who run a family trust and a women from an Edina church. We have narrowed our focus to: determining the status of homeless youth in Bloomington (could be expanded to south metro area if advocates coming from different cities discover a need) by meeting with the Bloomington school social worker October 22. We are educating ourselves on different "models" of homeless shelters by visiting Avenues in North Mpls, and we are setting up a time to get to Dakota Woodlands in Eagan in the next 30 days. Teens Alone in Hopkins is putting on a Summit November 8, 8am on homeless youth. They are the "model" for providing services for youth. Anyone can attend. I know there is also a group in Bloomington that is working for all the youth of Bloomington and we want to include them in our mission. So right now we are in a stage of gathering information, asking questions, reaching out to advocates already in the know and very open to new advocates with passion for kids, especially our homeless ones. We would love to have you join our group. We regroup after every informational meeting and determine our next step. We do not have formal meetings. We are all busy. If you contact me, I would include you on the Citizens Advocates for Housing email list, and you would get all the information on meetings and allow you to share your knowledge and insights and ideas.
